The Role of Development Communications in Urban Development (Case Study: Development in the City of Asaluyeh)

Abstract
Objective: “Urban development, as one of the vital aspects of societal progress, is influenced by various factors including development communications. These communications, involving the exchange of information and experiences between citizens and administrators, play a significant role in guiding and managing urban changes. As a city with strategic importance in Bushehr province, Asalouyeh has experienced remarkable developments in urban development. Recognized as an emerging industrial and economic hub, the city's effective and prominent economic role has led to citizen dissatisfaction. This research investigates the role of development communications in urban development based on four dimensions: economic, demographic, environmental, and physical. The purpose of this study is to identify the status of development focusing on the mentioned quadruple dimensions in order to recognize the position of development communications in the development of Asalouyeh city and to provide solutions for improving development processes in the city's future.
Methods: The research was conducted in a documentary manner using questionnaires. 373 questionnaires were prepared using Cochran's formula and completed by 343 citizens and 30 experts, professors, consultants, and city officials. The output of this research is presented in the form of tables and charts using Excel software and by referring to documents and aerial photographs.
Results: The results indicate the direct impact of the construction and expansion of the South Pars Gas Field complex on the development and expansion of Asalouyeh city in the mentioned four dimensions, which these effects were not solely positive and had significantly more negative impacts.
Conclusions: Considering the results obtained from the city's development status, there is a need for cooperation and increased effective communication between city officials and citizens in order to preserve dynamic and citizen-satisfying development.
