Abstract
Objective The simultaneous emergence of social media platforms in the governance sphere of the Islamic Republic of Iran, alongside various instances of unrest and protests, clearly highlights the potential of these platforms to disrupt social order and stability. These shifts in communication and social patterns enhance social media's ability to incite and facilitate protests and disturbances. Consequently, the role of these platforms in challenging social norms is a significant focus that can have deep implications for governance structures and political interactions in Iran. This study aimed to address the question: What is the relationship between social media and national order in the Islamic Republic of Iran?
Methods: For data collection, in addition to using documentary, internet, and library sources, interviews with experts were conducted. Subsequently, the collected data were examined using a qualitative method (thematic analysis) and an interpretive-analytical approach.
Results: Media, by transcending national borders, have created a new arena for competition among different countries around the world. As an influential factor, they have affected the political and social structures of various nations, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Conclusions: Social networks, with their unique features and functions, act as tools for amplifying, spreading, and perpetuating both structured content and disorder. Given the civilizational and value-based opposition between the governance model of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the dominant Western modernist system, these networks can have a dual impact on the order of the Islamic Republic of Iran. They can influence it both positively and negatively, directly and indirectly.
