Objective: This study aimed to identify the challenges confronting radio within the media content production ecosystem.
Methods: The research employed the Delphi technique. Participants comprised media and news experts selected based on their expertise, educational background, and professional experience. A purposive sampling method was applied, and after several refinement rounds, 26 experts participated in the final phase. This method is predominantly utilized in qualitative research to achieve group consensus on specialized issues.
Results: The findings indicated that the primary challenges in radio news production and dissemination have evolved across several domains. Initially, the most critical challenges were a lack of impartiality and the production of outdated content. In subsequent stages, issues such as inducing excitement and stimulating audience engagement gained higher priority. Furthermore, traditional gatekeeping and organizational constraints—particularly increased censorship—were identified as major obstacles in the news production process. Additional progressively prominent challenges included the underutilization of citizen journalism capacities, a decline in the speed of event coverage, and a reduction in the diversity of news sources. In the domain of digital content production (broadband), key concerns were the ineffective use of digital platforms such as Telegram and Eitaa, along with weak content appeal for online audiences. In traditional broadcasting (terrestrial radio), significant barriers included reduced direct audience interaction, declining loyal listenership, and technical limitations such as dependence on radio wave propagation and coverage gaps in remote areas.
Conclusions: The results suggest that to maintain its position within the media ecosystem, radio must adapt to digital transformations by increasing the speed of news dissemination, leveraging modern technologies, optimizing audience engagement, and employing innovative content production strategies. Failure to address these changes may lead to a decline in radio’s influence among contemporary audiences.
